Volunteer Opportunities:
Telephone Volunteers
Five volunteers needed (rotating schedule)
Time Commitment:
Approximately 5 hours/week during peak registration times;
Approximately 2 hours/week at other times
Location:
Home; Pappajohn Center to replenish supplies
Job Description:
Rotating schedule with other volunteers to answer Senior College main telephone
Answer from home
Check calls once/day Monday-Friday
Return calls same day or next day
Answer caller questions and send relevant information (i.e. brochures) to caller
Keep log of caller names, addresses and e-mails (to add them to the College database for future mailings)
Class Host Process Coordinator
One volunteer needed
Time Commitment: Approximately 10 hours total at the beginning of each semester
Location: Home; Pappajohn Center for course folder preparation
Job Description:
Find and confirm a class host for each class (SC Board and committee members have priority preference)
Send letter with specific instructions and the “Senior College Course Host Check List” to all class hosts before the start of each semester
Answer any questions that hosts might have about their duties.
Assist the office organizer volunteer in making sure the course folders are prepared before classes begin.
Marketing Committee Chairperson
One volunteer needed or could be co-chairs.
The mission of the marketing committee is to promote Senior College in the community and to attract students to our program. The Marketing Chairperson is a member of the Senior College Board.
Time Commitment:
Approximately 4 hours/week before the semester catalog is published and at beginning of each semester. Approximately 3 hours/week during the semester to keep up with advertising opportunities, supervise intern and attend Board meetings once per month.
Location: Pappajohn Center
Job Description:
Serve as Chair of Committee and work with members to divide tasks each semester.
Supervise summer marketing intern.
Oversee the course catalog coordination and editing two times per year. Work with Curriculum Committee and graphic designer to issue a professional looking publication.
Advise Board on local marketing opportunities and make recommendations for publicity including news releases, newspaper advertising, email notices, speakers bureau and connections with community organizations. Assist Committee in implementation.
Other volunteers are needed to host classes, deliver catalogs and flyers, talk with local groups and organizations, register students and send acceptance letters as well as many other assignments that help Senior College continue to be a strong volunteer-based organization.
