Volunteer Opportunities:

Senior College Committees

Curriculum – determine courses to offer each semester, secure instructors, facilities and other resources

Registration – process all registration forms and fees, coordinating with other committees to assure that all courses are properly staffed with appropriate information and materials

Marketing — promote Senior College in the community to attract students to the program

Fund-Raising/Grant-Writing – secure donations and funding from individuals and corporate organizations

Speakers Bureau – upon request, make short presentations followed by Q&A to local groups, promoting Senior College and distributing course catalogs and other material

Volunteer Committee – secure, assign and train all volunteers, keeping records of hours of service; coordinate with needs of all other committees

Phones – return phone calls daily, rotating with other volunteers; maintain records of calls and requests

Special Events – plan, organize and coordinate one-day events, including transportation and food services

Other Volunteer Opportunities

General Class Host — Attend each class session to assist the instructor by helping with room set-up; coordinating with the class facility if needed; serving as liaison between instructor, facility, students, and Board; distributing name badges, class materials and evaluations; answering questions and in general making sure all students feel welcome and included. Hosts should be familiar with the organization and resources of Senior College.

Class Assistant — In certain courses, i.e. computer or Mah Jongg, this volunteer does not participate as a student in the class but assists the instructor by providing individual help to class members. Usually one assistant per class is needed beside the General Class Host, who also serves as an Assistant.

Miscellaneous Duties Pool — These volunteers assist Senior College Committees and Coordinators in various tasks such as clerical duties and distributing materials (for example, deliver brochures and catalogs to libraries). Time commitment is an on-call basis to provide assistance when needed.
