The Role of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Time: Tuesday March 6, 1–5 PM
Location: Scottish Rite Park Penthouse
How does stress affect the brain? This four-hour class introduces you to the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program begun by John Kabat-Zinn and currently offered through University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Special emphasis will be placed on how mindfulness has been found to affect the brain. You will learn what the practice of mindfulness is and is not; the difference between responding and reacting to stress; what is meant by “neuroplasticity” and how it relates to the brain and mindfulness. Please dress comfortably to stretch and bring a mat or blanket to lie on the floor.
